WRITER I CREATIVE DIRECTOR l DIRECTOR
ONYISHI UCHENNA was born in Enugu, Nigeria in 1994, before moving to Abuja with his family. In 2010, he moved to Beijing, China. At thirteen, Uchenna won an award for an essay he submitted on child trafficking presented at the Muhammadu Buhari Convention Center, Abuja. He would not write seriously again until 2020, during the lockdown, when the impulse to write an honest letter to a fictional lover suddenly came upon him.
The first letter series he wrote, Lagos Island, and the several series that followed, guided him to the reflective voice that now captivates his readers. His other letter series include My Good Muslim Woman, A Christmas Story, and The Monster Under My Bed Looks Just Like You. He has also written short stories such as This is Not A Review of Heaven, Perforated White Walls and Binyelum.
His work explores themes of identity, love, loss, and personal growth. His debut epistolary novel, The Things That Will Destroy Me in the End, was originally published in 2024.
Uchenna holds a BSc in Economics and an IMBA from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. He currently resides in Beijing, where he is finishing his PhD in Risk Management and Insurance. He plans to move to the United States to pursue an MFA in Creative Writing with a specialisation in fiction.
